Pål GD: Kveldstur i nabolaget

Comments off

Comments off

Pål GD: A note about the university

Comments off

A minor difference between going to school at the University of Bergen (UiB) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is that

  • (a) At UiB you sign up to a course, and then you take the exam
  • (b) At UvA you sign up to a course, and show up every lecture (otherwise you wont know what to do to next time)
  • (c) You do weekly assignments
  • (d) In every course
  • (e) Otherwise you wont pass
  • (f) You wont pass

Point (f) might be the most worrisome. The lecturer today told us (after a total three hours with the course) that if we should quit, we should let him know. Then he picked someone to go to the blackboard proving

For all x in omega, x = 0 or there exists y s.t. x = sy

I have also been informed that the courses Recursion Theory and Model Theory is two of the hardest courses in pure math / logic at UvA. Whether or not this is true I do not know.

I might just spend some time here if I get a hold of a skateboard … This park is located ten meters from my apartment, i.e. in Stavangerweg:

I’ve been using the day roaming the streets of northern (north-western, perhaps) parts of Amsterdam.

If you ever want to get to my place, you must take bus 22 (or walk), which is called Spaarndammerbuurt. The bus can be found right outside the central station of Amsterdam and you do well to go off at Spaarndammerstraat (eng: savings lake street, whereas buurt is neighborhood).
